Unhooking from thoughts and feelings

Our minds are constantly bombarding us with thoughts and feelings. Sometimes it feels like our thoughts are the absolute truth, orders or even threats that must be taken seriously. Like a fish taking the bait on a hook, humans can easily get hooked by our thoughts and feelings significantly influence our actions. One of the principles of ACT is noticing your thoughts and feelings, identifying whether those thoughts are helpful to you in that moment, and disentangling or unhooking from those that are not. There are many strategies we can use to be able to notice and unhook from thoughts and feelings. When we unhook from our thoughts and feelings, we are better able to pursue the actions that make our live feel rich and meaningful.
